Event date: 04/03/08 14:30 to 17:00
Location: Room ASP A5G1, European Parliament, Brussels
2008 is an important year for the Rare Disease Community in Europe. On 29 February patients throughout the EU will celebrate the First Rare Disease Day, which is the first awareness raising campaign at EU level on Rare Diseases. The 2008 edition of the Rare Disease Day is aimed at presenting the issue of rare diseases as a Public Health priority for both national and European decision-makers.
At the Hearing on Rare Diseases organised at the European Parliament, co-hosted by Frédérique Ries and Jules Maaten, together with the European Organisation for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS), an overview will be given of the initiatives and activities taken in different Member States of the EU to commemorate the Rare Disease Day.
Furthermore, the European Commission launched a Public Consultation on the Commission Communication on Rare Diseases in December 2007. The deadline to contribute to this exercise is 14 February 2008. At the Public Hearing, participants will have a preliminary feedback on the results of the consultation and an overview of the main challenges and priorities of the Rare Diseases Community in Europe.
