Seattle teen's life saved by 'bulletproof' glasses

2014-04-12 1

A Seattle teen is surely thanking her optometrist tonight after a one-in-a-million near miss with a stray bullet.

Sixteen-year-old Alonza Bryant was in her living room nodding off to sleep while watching TV on the sofa in what was supposed to be just another ordinary evening at her family's home in southern Seattle. Except that some local gang-bangers targeted her home for a drive-by shooting. When the bullets started flying, one struck Alonza in the face, but not before having most of the force deflected by the frame of her glasses.

"If I hadn't had my glasses on, I wouldn't be here right now," she says. Her mother, LaVette Bryant, insists that there is no one with any gang affiliation living in the home and wonders why the house was targeted. In any case, they plan to move to a different house. Seattle police are still investigating the scene.
