U.S. runs army drill with South Korea

The U.S. army stationed in South Korea on Thursday conducted a combined military drill with South Korean troops, demonstrating chemical and biological deterrence.

About 350 U.S. soldiers took part in the drill, while South Korean military source declined to clarify how many South Korean soldiers participated.

The decontamination drill is aimed to provide chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) reconnaissance, surveillance and decontamination support to its allies, preparing for potential threats on the Korean peninsula.

After North Korea conducted a nuclear test in mid-February that drew swift U.N. sanctions, it ramped up tensions in its neighbourhood with near-daily threats to attack the two allies.
