Barbara Walters is slated to retire in 2014.

Barbara Walters has certainly had a long running career on television. She recently announced that she will be retiring from TV journalism in 2014.

The 83-year-old has spent more than half of a century covering major stories concerning politicians and celebrities. Walters will keep her position as the executive producer of the TV show, ‘The View’.

She stated “I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on 'The View' and with ABC News. I created 'The View' and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it.”

At this point in her life, Walters claimed she would rather sit and watch the men and women who will be taking her place from a “sunny field” rather than physically being in the broadcaster’s seat.

Born in Boston, Walters began her career in 1961 as a reporter and writer on the “Today” show. In the mid-1970s she was promoted to co-host but the ABC network scooped her up only a few years later.

She has spent over 35 years at ABC, appearing on “20/20” and numerous other primetime specials.
