Clouded leopards are believed to be extinct.
It is estimated that upto 50% of all our planet's species could be extinct by mid-century.
Recently, US-based and local zoologists in Taiwan concluded that the Formosan clouded leopard has most likely become extinct.
As part of a lengthy 13-year-old study, researchers placed scent traps in the mountains and also installed roughly 1,500 infrared cameras in an attempt to find the animals. Sadly, nothing was ever found during that time period to prove the clouded leopards are still in existence.
The zoologists believe the lack of findings is related to habitat destruction which is caused by construction projects in the area and poaching.
Recently, rhinoceroses living in The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park in Mozambique were completely wiped out. The last 15 remaining rhinos were believed to have been killed by poachers for their horns, and park rangers have been charged with working together with the poachers.
30 game rangers have to go to court over charges of collusion in the death of the rhinos.
