Japanese Robots Get Brutally Honest

Japanese robots get brutally honest.

Many people don’t like giving bad news, even if it’s just about somebody’s less than fresh breath. Thankfully, a robot company in Japan has been hard at work to take that potential burden off the table.

The manufacturer CrazyLabo in collaboration with the Kitakyushu National College of Technology has come up with a girl’s head-shaped device that tells people where their breath ranks on a scale of 4 options.

It’s easy to use – just breathe on it and it’ll tell you if your breath, “…smells like citrus” or will perhaps proclaim, "Emergency! There's an emergency taking place! That's beyond the limit of patience!"

The same company made a lumpy looking puppy that checks your feet. The dog’s feelings are communicated through body language and its actions range from a cuddle to passing out.

They’re not available in stores, but the inventor said he may take them on tour.

Smelling robots have been developed for other practical purposes as well. The Feral Dog Project retrofits toy pups with olfactory chips and sets them loose to locate environmental toxins and pollutants.
