The ABBA museum opens in Stockholm.
The fan base behind the Swedish pop group, ABBA is still going strong. A new ABBA museum, located in Stockholm, Sweden opened on May 7th, 2013.
Described as an “all-singing, all-dancing tribute” to the band most well-known for the hit ‘Dancing Queen’, the institution is located inside of an upscale restaurant and hotel known as the Swedish Music Hall of Fame. The museum features a dressing room, filled with many of the group members’ elaborate costumes. Visitors will even get to try on some of the now famous garments.
A stage allows museum patrons to appear next to holograms of the band members, adding a high tech vibe to the establishment.
It is estimated that ABBA sold approximately 300-400 million records, which deems the group the second most successful band ever. They rank in right behind the Beatles.
The group formed in 1972 in Stockholm. The name ABBA is derived from the first letters of all four band member's names. By the late 1970s, the then mega group had toured all over the United Kingdom, US and Canada.
