Obie, the once obese dog recently underwent surgery to have excess skin removed.

Obie was once a very large, male dachshund that weighed in at 77 pounds. His new owner, Nora Vanatta adopted him last year and set up a Facebook page to help raise funds for the pooch’s costly diet and exercise plans.

The idea worked! Obie has recently received surgery to remove two pounds of excess skin left over from his weight reduction journey. After recovering at the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin, he is now home and working with his owner to get back to his normal routine.

Prior to the operation, Obie weighed a little over 37 pounds. He only has a little way to go. Vanetta states, “He should be around 35 pounds now. I figure his healthy weight is between 28 and 30 pounds.”

Another obese dog had a Facebook page set up. Mabel is a beagle mix, initially weighing a hefty 67 pounds.

She was placed into an animal shelter and fortunately was accepted into a fitness program at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. As of April 1st, Mabel completed her weight loss journey, weighing in at a healthy 23 pounds.
