PARVEEN SABRINA KHAN & ILYAS KHAN FEATURING ANTOINE LAHAY & ETIENNE CABARET - BHAWANI
PRESENTED BY RISHI MAJUMDER
Parveen Sabrina Khan and Ilyas Raphael Khan get together with Antoine Lahay and Etienne Cabaret of Diese 3 for a preview of their fusion collaboration project. A work-in-progress, the project looks to fuse the artists' respective traditional forms.
Parveen and Ilyas are musicians steeped in the Indian classical tradition. Their father Hameed Khan "Kawa," a percussionist (tabla player) and an artistic director, descends from a long musical lineage from Rajasthan and is an exponent of both folk and classical Indian music. He has been an innovator in the field of traditional music with original Western and Oriental fusions and has teamed up with many international musicians such as The Trio Erik Marchand, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Lakshmi Shankar, Chico Bouchiki (Gypsy King), Najat Aatabou, Natacha Atlas, Henri Texier, Lo'Jo, Thierry Robin, Henri Agnel, Gulabi Sapera and Carolyn Carlson
Antoine and Etienne are part of Diese 3 (together with Pierre Droual), an act that is loosely described as contemporary traditional Breton music (http://www.diese3.com/)
The artists represent different cultures and regions and try to find similarities and influences in their traditional cultures to expand their music further. All the four musicians share one thing - they are part of the new generation of musicians, trained in their classical styles, but looking to push their respective genres in an organic way.
The group will come together later this year in France under the name Nirmaan, to record an album.
