In a show of nationalism, mainland Japan celebrates the restoration of it's sovereignty for the first time since regaining it in 1952.
Sunday, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared April 28th Sovereignty Restoration Day to mark the day that Japan fully regained its independence from the Allied Occupation after World War II.
As part of a drive to repair what conservatives consider a dented national pride, Abe urged citizens to take responsibility for making Japan a proud nation once again.
Meanwhile in Okinawa, people held anti-sovereignty day protests. The island didn't regain its independence until 1972- a full 20 years after the mainland.
