Amnesty International condemns Russian human rights record

Two leading human rights groups have produced scathing reports on the situation in Russia. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch both describe a crackdown on civil liberties and dissent as the worst since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Under President Vladimir Putin freedom of assembly and expression have been curbed and critics imprisoned.
