U.S. military chief meets China's Xi Jinping

The United States' top military officer met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday in a visit aimed at improving the two sides' military relations and exchanging views on international and regional issues.

U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey arrived in China on Sunday afternoon and started his five-day trip in the country at the invitation of Chinese top military officer.

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People afterDempsey met Chinese Defence Minister Chang Wanquan and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Fan Changlong respectively at Chinese Defence Ministry.

Dempsey and his counterpart Chinese Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People'sLiberation Army Fang Fenghui held a meeting on Monday about the U.S. military realignment in Asia Pacific and also discussed North Korea.
