Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday over lunch in Istanbul to discuss the latest regional developments.
Kerry is on a two day visit to Turkey, meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas earlier on Sunday. Kerry and Abbas have recently met several times to find ways of getting Israel and Palestine back to the table.
The last round of direct negotiations quickly collapsed in late 2010 in a dispute over Jewish settlement building on land that Israel captured in a 1967 war and that the Palestinians want for a state.
Kerry also attended a Friends of Syria meeting on Saturday (April 20), after which he said the United States would double its non-lethal aid to opposition forces in Syria to $250 million .
