Giorgio Napolitano has put forward his candidacy for another term as Italy's president after the main political parties appealed for him to help resolve a deepening crisis. The announcement came after politicians again failed to elect a new head of state in their fifth round of voting on Saturday, with the largest share of ballots left blank in a stalling tactic by parties.
