Rescuers searched for six missing people on Friday (April 19) after two barges from mainland China collided in heavy fog off the coast of Hong Kong late on the previous day.

According to Hong Kong broadcaster ATV, five other people were found in the water and taken to hospital after one of the boats sank.

The 96-metre-vessels (315-foot) were reportedly carrying construction waste and sand when they crashed.

It was the second major collision at sea in less than two weeks. On April 5, more than 30 people were injured when a high-speed passenger ferry collided with a barge.

In October 2012 two passenger ferries crashed off Lamma Island killing 39.
