A sober bar is scheduled to open in the Chicago area.
When you hear the word 'bar', what comes to mind? Liquor, right?
One establishment, named ‘The Other Side’ in Illinois is geared towards sober patrons. Set to officially open on April 27th, the bar will serve no alcohol whatsoever.
Chris Reed, a former addict and one of the mind’s behind the venture states “If you're choosing a sober lifestyle, this will be a healthy atmosphere. It's an important place for people in recovery.”
Reed claims there are very limited entertainment options for those who are battling with addictions. The Other Side will only be open 4 nights a week and all proceeds will fund drug treatment and prevention initiatives.
It will have a lounge area, a TV, billiards tables, video games and an area for live bands.
In 2011, another establishment opened, catering to the drug and alcohol free crowd. Located in Cleveland, Club Sober Juice Bar & Grill served breakfast, burgers and sandwiches but the full menu offered no booze.
The owner stated “I wanted to do something different to help the community.”
