Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday (April 16) in Boston for a vigil after the bombings that shook the city's marathon on Monday.

Visitors fought back tears and embraced friends and loved ones to honor the victims of the explosion that has taken the lives of three people and wounded 176 others.

Dozens lit candles and laid flowers on the ground during the quiet and somber event.

Banners were laid on the ground for people to write notes of encouragement and hope. Messages included, "We are Boston strong," "We're all with you," "Peace," and "Love destroys hate."
