The protégé of Hugo Chavez celebrates a narrow election victory.

With 50.7 percent of the vote, Nicolas Madruo was declared the winner of Venezuela's presidential election on Sunday (April 14).

But as his supporters welcomed the news, the opposition refused to accept the result.

Rival Henrique Capriles suffered a narrow loss, leaving his supporters devastated.

The opposition leader demands a full recount and accuses Madruo of being "loaded with illegitimacy".

The president-elect called for calm, and told supporters he's open to a recount.
