But as his supporters welcomed the news, the opposition refused to accept the result.

The opposition leader demands a full recount and accuses Madruo of being "loaded with illegitimacy".
The president-elect called for calm, and told supporters he's open to a recount.

"We don't want violence, we call for peace, to respect tolerance, the institutions. We call for the results to be respected."
While Madruo's supporters celebrated in the capital, the controversy raises fears of political unrest.
