STORY: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday during his two-day trip to China.
Kerry and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to discuss the tensions on the Korean peninsula.
Kerry is meeting China's top leaders in an effort to persuade them to exert pressure on North Korea to scale back its belligerent rhetoric and, eventually, return to nuclear talks.
Traveling to Beijing for the first time as secretary of state, Kerry made no secret of his desire to see China take a more activist stance toward North Korea, which in recent weeks has threatened nuclear war against the United States.
As Kerry met with with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang the Chinese leader emphasized the common interest between his country and the United States.
Kerry said that the change of leadership in Beijing presented an opportunity to renew the Sino-U.S. relationship.
