Like many towns in Spain, the double-dip recession has hit Espera hard. Farms around the rural, southern Spanish town grow mostly wheat the harvesting and sowing is done by machine. Some families say they have gone to other regions looking for farm work but face stiff competition for jobs from other workers from north Africa or other parts of the EU. But a group of volunteers in the town have banded together to run a food bank for the Catholic charity Caritas. They feed about 50 needy families each week. Karl Penhaul reports from Espera.
