Madonna left her glamorous showbiz life behind in exchange for a brief visit to Malawi, birth country of her two adopted children David and Mercy James.
However the singer's arrival wasn't short of a big entrance - a long convoy of cars accompanying the pop singer as she visited children at the Home for Hope orphanage in Mchinji town on Wednesday (April 3) .
Her visit comes on the same day as the announcement the singer was selling a 7 million dollar painting by French artist Fernand Leger, to raise funds for girls' education projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries.
Madonna isn't the only star trying to help boost girls' education in the developing world.
Earlier this week actress Angelina Jolie opened a girls' school in Afghanistan and announced plans to fund more by selling a jewellery line.
