Days after thousands of dead pigs were found in China, rotting ducks have been discovered in the south-west.

More than 1,000 dead ducks have been pulled from a river in Sichuan province.

Many were found dumped in bags.

Officials insist the ducks pose no threat to livestock or humans.

Local media say the river is not a source of drinking water for local residents.

An investigation has been launched into why the ducks died.

The discovery comes after thousands of dead pigs were found in a river near Shanghai, sparking public outrage.

Traces of a virus were found in some of the pigs, raising fears that sick animals could end up in the food chain.
