Europe's largest aquarium opens in Copenhagen.
There are few places in the world more magical than an aquarium.
'The Blue Planet' in Copenhagen is a new arrival on the scene and is Northern Europe’s largest aquarium.
Almost 100,000 square feet, the impressive structure is built in the shape of a conch shell.
Designed by the highly acclaimed architectural firm, 3XN, the tourism board predicts the new facility will attract roughly 700,000 visitors each year.
Located right next to the sea, the building offers differing exhibits of Africa’s lakes, the Amazon river and coral reefs. 450 different species reside in the aquarium along with 20,000 fish and aquatic creatures. Sharks, dwarf crocodiles and sea lions are just some of the features.
The architect behind the aquarium states “The design of The Blue Planet is based on the story about water and life under the sea. We visualize the construction as a whirlpool which draws visitors into the depths to the fascinating experiences waiting among fish and sea animals from all over the world.”
