Former Baywatch star, David Hasselhoff is working with Germans for a special cause. He was recently in Berlin, visiting protesters
who are against plans to remove the iconic surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall. (1,1,1)
The 60-year-old actor and singer told hundreds of thousands of Germans that he wanted to lend his support in preserving the wall. (1,2,1) Plans to remove a nearly one mile section of the wall known as the East Side Gallery initiated angry protests early in March.The steps to move the wall are part of a developer's designs for a luxury housing development access path. Over 100 people died between the 1960s and 1980s attempting to cross the wall which divided the communist-controlled East Berlin and West Berlin. (2,10,1)Most of the wall has been destroyed in recent years, but the remainder serves as a memorial site.
Hasselhoff states that the wall, "keeps the memories of all the families, the thousands and thousands of families that were torn apart alive."
