Cost management has always been one of mpower's major strengths. In the latest release of mpower the cost management and forecasting processes have expanded functionality.
Now when you enter cost estimates into the system you have the concept of an original estimate, revised estimate and forecast estimate. The original estimate is as expected (the values derived from your estimating process). The revised estimate is now linked to the mpower variations register and any approved variations which impact upon hours, costs or revenues are now shown in your revised estimates. The forecast estimates are derived in the same way however the forecast includes both approved and unapproved variations. You also have the choice as to whether these estimates remain static over the life cycle of the project or whether they are updated with actual values on an on-going basis.
Also new to the latest version of mpower is the concept of final forecasting. Forecasting of remaining hours, costs and revenues still come from the planning process where a plan with activities and resources are linked; alternatively the final forecast is a copy of the revised estimate if no such links are in place. This new final forecast is also editable allowing your cost engineers to override the computed values; given their knowledge of the current project work scopes.
