$10 Million Battle - Twist Ties vs. Plastic Clips

Check out a big battle between twist ties and plastic clips.

Everyone knows about the two different products that keep your bags of bread, or other produce closed, but not many people put much thought into the war between twist ties and plastic clips.

Competition in the bag closure and reclosure market is getting heated.

Arnold bread has recently decided to switch from the plastic clips to twist ties.

David Margulies, a spokesman for Bimbo Bakeries, the company that owns Arnold bread said: “Our research showed moving to bag ties from clips was a cost-effective way to meet consumer preferences, so we made the switch during an equipment upgrade last May."

There isn’t any data on which of the two ways to reclose your bag is the dominant force in the market.

One advantage of the plastic clips is that information can be printed on them, like price, expiration date, or a barcode, but they can also damage the bag.

One website, horg.com, has done intensive research into the different kinds of plastic clips and their sub categories, noting the variations on the clip like a taxonomic record.
