WCBS's Betsy Ashton reports on the world of mail-order lenses, and she and Meredith Vieira discuss the optical industry's attempt to destroy it. The argument espoused by Dr. Paul Farkas - that mail-order lenses are not safe - was meritless. Unfortunately, his self-serving hyperbole fooled many consumers at the time. Today, of course, we know better. Mail-order lenses are ubiquitous, with huge outlets such as 1-800 CONTACTS serving millions of customers every year without incident.
Features a brief interview with Dr. Joseph Seriani, known at the time as Dr. Joseph Serian.
Aired April 2, 1985.
