Catholics around the world welcome Pope Francis

Catholics around the world gather to celebrate the election of a new pope.

From Manila in the Philippines to Spain's Madrid, crowds were eager for word on their new leader.

New York warmly welcomed the news as Argentina's Cardinal Bergoglio was elected as Francis the first.

The surprise choice came as a shock to some Argentinian tourists.

SOUNDBITE: (English) ARGENTINIAN TOURIST ANA PAULA SAYING:

"He's a really good man...I've been to masses with him, and all of this stuff. I'm sorry, I'm just trembling...I don't know what to say!"

At London's Westminster Cathedral, Archbishop Vincent Nichols broke the news to a crowd largely unaware of the new pope.
