A new chewing gum contains caffeine.

Want to indulge in some caffeine without having coffee?

A new gum from Wrigley is offering 40 milligrams of caffeine per piece, which equates to about half a cup of coffee.

Targeted towards people between the ages of 25 to 49, Wrigley hopes the “bitter taste, hexagonal pellet, primary packaging and premium price point” will make the new packs stand out among traditional gums on the market.

One piece contains five calories and each package contains 8 pieces available in both fruit and mint flavors. Priced at a little under $3, the Alert Energy Caffeine Gum is expected to hit store shelves in the summer of 2013.

Several years ago, energy drink maker, Rockstar also released a gum containing caffeine.

Four pieces of gum equated to the same amount of caffeine in one original 16 ounce Rockstar can. Available in an Iced Mint or Fruit flavor the gum contained several vitamins, but ultimately didn’t do too well on the market.

How do you like the idea of caffeine induced gum?
