A mother sues FedEx after a carrier gives drug smugglers her address.
A Massachusetts woman is suing FedEx following a troubling incident.
Maryangela Tobin claims that on October 20th, 2012, a FedEx carrier delivered a package to her home in Plymouth.
She thought the box contained candles, art materials and several other items which she had purchased for her daughter’s birthday. When Tobin began unraveling the package, a strong scent of marijuana filled the room, so she contacted police and asked them to take the parcel.
A little while later, several men showed up at her house, asking for the bundle. Tobin told them she didn’t have the package and the males left.
According to law enforcement, the carrier had given the intended recipients Tobin’s address. Those men turned out to be drug smugglers who were later arrested. The terrified mom is suing FedEx for emotional distress, negligence and damages for a violation of privacy.
Last year, a Washington D.C. man named Seth Horvitz ordered a TV through a private seller on Amazon.com, however UPS delivered a box containing an assault rifle. Horvitz's information was listed on the outside of the box, but the invoice inside the packaging showed a different seller and buyer.
Horvitz contacted the Metropolitan Police Department who confiscated the weapon.
