Man dragged by S.Africa police vehicle dies in detention

Police in Daveyton, South Africa try to restrain a man who appears to be resisting arrest.

The 27 year old Mozambican man is alleged to have parked his taxi on the wrong side of the road, obstructing traffic.

Once the police overpower him, they tie him to the police van.

In front of dozens of witnesses, the van then drives off, dragging the detainee along the ground. He died later in detention.

On Thursday morning this video was broadcast and caused outrage among South Africans.

One taxi driver in Johannesburg says the images reminded him of a darker era of his country's past.

"These officers are a disappointment for South Africa. This reminds me of apartheid brutality. They should be arrested. They deserve to go to jail. President Zuma must take serious action against these officers."
