Almost six years since its inception, the UN African Mission in Darfur, UNAMID, has grown in both size and experience.

Despite continued violence in the region, the forces have already started to reduce in numbers based on need.

Still, clashes amongs tribal groups over resources have proven a challenge to the UNAMID's core mandate of protecting civilians.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Vall reports from Darfur, where he has gone on patrol with the forces.
