This was one of the bands led by US born British bandleader Ray Starita in London, where his brothers Al and Rudy equally were prominent musicians and bandleaders. Tenor-saxophone player Ray Starita came to Britain in the early 1920s and was one of the original members of The Savoy Orpheans. In the mid-1920s, he lead the Piccadilly Revels Band which played at the Piccadilly Hotel, moving to the Ambassadors' Club by 1928. The Revels band at the Piccadilly Hotel, featured in this recording was intended to rival the bands at the Savoy Hotel and Kit-Cat club. Jack Hylton put 22 year old Ray in charge of the band which played for the Revels cabaret and floorshow at this prestigious hotel. This brilliant recording was made in 1928.
