The International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Austria is displaying an exhibit that explores the many faces of Mozart, and the controversy behind the portraiture that depicts him.
There are fourteen versions of Mozart’s likeness that are known to exist in different mediums…such as oil paintings, engraving and medallions.
Back in 1924, the Mozarteum bought a portrait that they thought was Mozart as a child, because of an inscription on the painting.
It turned out that the inscription had been added later and the portrait was not Mozart.
