Some people will find a way to profit from any situation.
30-year-old, Nathalie Heil was recently booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of fraud and grand theft.
She allegedly took over her neighbor’s vacant and foreclosed home, placed an ad on Craigslist and ended up renting it out for $1,500 per month.
Police found out when the owner’s daughter alerted officers that the residence appeared to be occupied, despite currently being in foreclosure. Heil claimed to have filed paperwork to gain possession of the house, but police say there were no documents located to back up her story.
The couple who had rented the vacant home claims that they have paid approximately $13,000 in rent to Heil since June of 2012.
Last year, a California man was arrested for allegedly renting out several foreclosed, unoccupied homes. The 62-year-old male, who was a former licensed real estate agent, used Craigslist to advertise the fraudulent rentals.
According to the district attorney’s office, he had leased at least 4 homes, valued between $215,000 and $742,000.
