An albino wallaby is born at a zoo.

An adorable wallaby has been born at Linton Zoo in the United Kingdom.

A member of the public was the first to see the tiny animal as it emerged from the mother’s pouch.

Shockingly, the wallaby is albino. Zoo workers believe the creature, classified as a red-necked wallaby which will grow white fur, is a descendant of a royal animal. (1,2,1)

The zoo director states “Our wallabies are probably descended from albinos that were donated to the Queen on a state visit to Australia in 1962." (1,5,1)

Wallabies are members of the kangaroo family, primarily native to Australia. Right after birth, they crawl into their mothers’ pouches where they continue to grow and develop for several months. (3)

Last year, an albino echidna gained worldwide attention. The echidna, named Casper was rescued after he was discovered on the side of the road. Casper fully recovered and was released into the wild, at a nature reserve in Australia.

A spokesman for the RSPCA stated “It's a very, very rare animal. It's an actual privilege to see an animal like this up close". It is estimated that approximately 1 in 10,000 echidnas are albino. (2, previous script)
