STORY: Chilean authorities regained control on Saturday of the Antofagasta prison where a group of inmates started a riot that included at least one hostage and clashes between police and family members outside the facility.
Earlier in the day, a group of prisoners were seen standing on the rooftop of the facility at the height of the riot. According to reports, at least one prison guard had been held hostage.
Prisoners were demanding better conditions inside the facility and protesting against overcrowding in cells.
Family members of some of the prisoners clashed with police outside the facility, demanding information on their loved ones. Authorities used tear gas to repel the crowd.
