Devastation in Bangladesh after a fire rips through a slum in the capital Dhaka.

Firefighters hose down the shanties near a police station as residents also pitch in, but for many it's too late.

It took more than an hour to bring the blaze under control.

"Suddenly the slum caught fire and about two hundred homes were destroyed. I also live here and my home is burnt, now I am just thinking about how we will survive.

We have lost all of our belongings and savings, now I am penniless, says this woman, pleading for help.

No casualties were reported.

The cause of the blaze that left more than 500 people homeless is unknown.
