Number 5 – A man named Vernon Lytle became the first mail carrier to accept and deliver a real live baby. The little boy weighed 10 3/4 pounds was safely wrapped and successfully delivered to the intended recipient – the baby’s grandmother, Mrs. Beagle. The infant’s postage was 15 cents and he was insured for $50.
Number 4 – Panama was facing a crisis relating to gas prices. On that day in 1913, residents of Panama were seeing a $1 per gallon price tag on gasoline due to a supply shortage. The hike was expected to last several days until more shipments could come in.
Number 3 – Misses graduation dresses were submitted for scrutiny to females who graduated with honor. Saks & Company claimed that “if good values were eligible for diplomas, we should submit these.”
Number 2 – In his new role, President William H. Taft was going to be the Kent professor of law at Yale University and his annual salary was announced. He would receive a whopping $5,000 which was the maximum paid to upper grade professors.

The toddler had previously slipped out the door, accompanied by his pet dog. A search party eventually discovered the boy had drowned in a puddle - his dog stood faithfully by his body howling.
