Cold snap continues as storm threatens U.S. northeast

A daunting winter storm pushes through the U.S.' mid-Atlantic and northeast regions -- and has resulted in three deaths so far.

On Friday, snowy and icy conditions slowed traffic and caused several car crashes, as many drivers lost control on slippery streets.

The sight of snow plows has become a common occurence as crews try to clear the roads.

In Lake Placid, New York, a fire broke out in a building that housed several businesses.

The water used by firefighters to extinguish the blaze eventually froze, turning the building into a block of ice.

Forecasters say the cold will continue through Saturday before temperatures finally rise on Sunday.
