Heavy rains in Peru caused five rivers to overflow, damaging some 730,000 homes, officials said.
Images from Thursday (January 24) in the San Martin region showed people in waist-deep water after the Huallga River spilled over its banks.
Landslides have washed out roads and crops in the area while flood waters have entered houses.
In the Ancash region, around a thousand people were without drinking water after a mudslide wiped out pipes.
Residents of Ancash and San Martin asked the government for help to fix infrastructure and house people who had been run out of their homes.
