Residents of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, gather at the scene of a gruesome crime.

Police suspect gang hitmen are responsible for killing six people, mostly youths, in one of the deadliest attacks the country has seen this year.

The killings happened on Thursday and were likely over coveted drug smuggling routes.

Local media claim two men dressed in black shot each of the victims in the head and body, execution style.

One of the victims' mothers said her 45-year-old son was an innocent bystander.

Tegucigalpa is the country's commercial and industrial hub and has become one of the world's deadliest destinations due to escalating gang and drug violence.
