The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix opened its 17th season with slopestyle qualifiers at Copper Mountain today. The newly added Olympic sport of slopestyle snowboarding saw over 100 athletes from 37 countries at the first domestic World Cup of the year and 5Star World Snowboard Tour event.

Fan favorites Chas Guldemond (Reno, NV) and Eric Willett (Breckenridge, CO) both made it to finals, that take place on Friday. The weekend will be televised on both NBC and the NBC Sports Network, plus live coverage of halfpipe finals on the USSA Network.

Eric Willett was stoked on competing so close to home and had this to say: "I love being able to compete in my home county, it’s great to sleep in my own bed and compete. The Grand Prix is so important and it’s cool that slopestyle will be at Copper this season. I’m looking forward to ride what they put together for a course and get my Olympic qualifying points started."
