Tension in the Kashmir Valley continues to soar. 22 Panches and Sarpanches from the Repan area of Sopore have resigned. Congress Sarpanch Habibullah Mir, who was affiliated with the Congress, was shot in the neck by the unidentified militants at his home in Goripora village on January 11. Outraged over the recent killing of a sarpanch by militants in Sopore district, an organisation of Panches and Sarpanches of the state asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to quit if he could not provide them security. The state unit of Congress asked Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police Ashok Prasad to investigate into the recent killing of a sarpanch by militants in Sopore.
