String Quartet (1995) by James Humberstone

2013-01-13 36

String Quartet (1995) by James Humberstone has four slowly phasing parts. The cello part repeats twice, while the viola part repeats seven times, and the first and second violins three and five times. Over its duration the parts phase out and then back together, but the work was carefully conceived so that every moment is entirely deliberate. This performance (2011) by Doretta Balkizas (vln 1), Jonathan Hendl (van 2), Nicole Forsyth (vla) and Eleanor Betts (cel).
