MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi was on Wednesday (January 9) sent to jail for 14 days in Adilabad district, a day after he was arrested on sedition, criminal conspiracy and other charges for making a "hate speech" last month. 42-year-old Akbaruddin, who flew in from London on Monday, spent the night at the police station in Nirmal town, about 200 km from Hyderabad, and was produced at 5.30 AM before the magistrate who sent him in judicial remand till January 22. An MLA, Akbaruddin, younger brother of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and MP Asdauddin Owaisi, was taken to Adilabad district jail, about 80 kms from Hyderabad, police said. He has sought a direction from the magistrate to shift him to Hyderabad.
