India's wealthy residents are spending money in unusal ways.
How would you spend your money if you were incredibly rich?
Wealthy shoppers in India spend their scads of dough for seemingly unusual purposes.
Apparently super rich people are using monetary symbols to differentiate themselves from others. Shahnaz Husain, a famous female Indian entrepreneur purchases brand new Louis Vuitton handbags. To the horror of fashionistas everywhere, she immediately cuts up and shreds the highly sought after bags and uses the pieces to design her clothes employing them on the collars and sleeves.
In another example, an Indian businessman purchased a shiny new Mercedes to cruise around in. As soon as he got bored with it, he crashed it and dumped it without a second thought.
A businessman's wife couldn't attend a wedding and according to the Economic Times, as an apology, she sent over $100,00 worth of luxury handbags to the bride.
According to scientists, luxury goods are more than just symbols of wealth, they serve as a means to psychological fulfillment.
Recently, a businessman in India purchased a $250,000 solid gold shirt and wore it during the New Year’s celebration. Reportedly, it took a whole team of goldsmiths who worked 18 hours a day for more than two weeks to complete the woven gold garment.
That may not be such a bad move, considering gold prices have soared the past few years.
