Police confirmed on Friday (January 4) that British supermodel Naomi Campbell was mugged by two assailants who tried to steal her handbag in Paris in late November. Campbell lodged a complaint with police after being attacked by two men on motorbikes in the capital's trendy Marais neighborhood. The men attempted to steal Campbell's bag from inside the car she was in on the evening of November 21. U.S. newspaper The New York Post reported that Campbell had suffered a knee injury in the attack and could require surgery.
Former French screen goddess Brigitte Bardot is threatening to follow Gerard Depardieu in asking for a Russian passport, in protest not to tax hikes, but at the treatment of two circus elephants. Bardot is protesting the plan to kill the two elephants who are thought to be carrying tuberculosis. Bardot's threat comes a day after fellow actor Depardieu caused a storm in France by becoming a Russian citizen in protest to high tax rates proposed by the Socialist government, which he accuses of penalizing success.
"Star Wars" creator George Lucas will marry his longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson. The 68 year old Lucas and the 43 year old Hobson, who is the president of Chicago investment firm Ariel Investments, have been together for the past six years. It will be Lucas' second marriage. Lucas sold Lucasfilm and the "Star Wars" franchise to the Walt Disney Co in November for $4.05 billion.
Super spy James Bond is getting some Oscar recognition this year. The 007 franchise, which hit the 50 year mark in 2012, will be recognized with a special tribute during the Academy Awards. The Bond movies are the longest running movie franchise in history.
