Mourners gather at a makeshift memorial in Ivory Coast's main city of Abidjan - after dozens of people died in a stampede in the early hours of New Year's Day.

61 people were killed and more than 200 others were injured when panic broke out as police tried to control crowds gathered at a stadium for a fireworks display.

A day after the incident, people laid flowers as investigators combed through the debris.

Mourners at the memorial demanded answers.

"I think it should be established who is responsible for this and punishment given so that this doesn't happen again in the future."

Wednesday marked the first of three national days of mourning for the victims.
