STORY: President Barack Obama and his family arrived in his native state of Hawaii just after midnight on Saturday for their annual holiday vacation.
Obama had told reporters "see you next week" after delivering a statement on the fiscal cliff standoff on Friday, but the White House did not specify when the president would return to Washington.
Unless a deal is reached, $600 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts due to kick in early next year. Many economists forecast that this "fiscal cliff" will push the economy into recession.
